SAN JOSE, Calif. – Following Director of Athletics Jeff Konya's recent announcement detailing a new, 10-year partnership with Playfly Sports, the multimedia rights holder has appointed Bay Area industry veteran, John Castro, as General Manager of San José State Sports Properties. Castro will lead the athletic department's sponsorship sales and activation strategy beginning April 1, 2022.
"I am thrilled to join San José State and begin building a team focused on representing the incredible story of Spartan Athletics and its programs," said Castro. "Behind Jeff Konya's great vision, the Playfly team will work to deepen the connection between San Jose Staté athletics and the Bay Area community."
Castro's career spans more than 25 years in the sports and entertainment industry. Specializing in team leadership and sales strategy across corporate partnerships, premium hospitality, ticket sales, and operations, the San Jose-native comes to Playfly Sports Properties after serving as Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for Sharks Sports and Entertainment. During his time, he developed a new team structure and strategy to drive new business revenue and deepen relationships with existing corporate clients.

As part of the decade-long deal, Playfly will manage all sponsorship internally and externally, along with making strategic capital investments to improve the overall experience for the corporate community and fans of San José State Athletics.
