RENO, Nev.—Ashley Goard hit her second and third home runs of the season and drove in five runs to help the San José State softball team win the series opener at Nevada, 14-10, Friday afternoon at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park in Reno.

- Goard drove in three of the team's five runs in the top of the first inning with her home run to center field.
- She followed that up with a two-run shot in the top of the third inning to score Karizma Bergesen.
- This was Goard's third multi-RBI game of the season with her five RBI.
- Alyssa Graham led the Spartan hitting attack as she was 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI.
- Ashley Rico and Bergesen each had two hits in the game.
- The Spartans recorded season highs in runs scored with 14, hits with 14 and RBI with 13.
- Jenessa Ullegue pitched 1.1 innings of relief to improve her record to 13-4 on the season. She faced 10 batters and allowed four runs, one earned, in the circle. Ullegue started the game in centerfield and returned there after her time in the circle.

The Spartans take an 18-17 overall record and 4-6 MW mark into game two of the series at Nevada (11-27, 1-9) on Saturday and Sunday with games starting at noon each day.
