BREMERTON, Wash.—Caleb Shetler, Carl Corpus and Matt Heitel each shot a two-under 70 Saturday as the San José State men's golf team made a jump in the team standings after the second round of the 2022 Mountain West Championship at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
- Shetler, Corpus and Kotaro Murata are tied for 17th place at even-par 144. Shetler was four-under through the first 10 holes, making four birdies and six pars. He finished the day by making birdies on three of the final five holes.
- Corpus was two-under through 14 holes, making two birdies and 10 pars to that point. He finished bogey-two pars-birdie for his 70.
- Murata finished the day at even-par 72, playing the final nine holes of the round at 3-under par.
- With his 70 in the second round, Heitel moved into a tie for 36th with five other players including teammate Kristopher Stiles at 6-over 150. Heitel finished his round of 70 with four birdies over the final six holes. Stiles shot a 4-over 76 on Saturday, making birdies on holes 9 and 18.
- The Spartans are one of four teams to shoot under-par rounds on Saturday – Colorado State (-14), San Diego State (-15), Nevada (-9) and San José State (-6).
- San José State is just five shots behind fourth-place Boise State and nine shots from third-place Nevada.
Final-round action begins Sunday morning at 8 a.m., with the Spartans beginning play at 10:15 a.m. with Boise State.
