SJSU Athletics Hosts The Sammy Awards on Tuesday at California Theatre

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State Athletics is set to host the annual Sammy Awards at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose on Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. The Sammy's is a celebration for SJSU's 450-plus student-athletes to honor their accomplishments in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

"This is a high energy, fun event that will be entertaining through the entire show," said Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. "We have some great presenters, awards and some fun shout outs from some of our tremendous alums. I appreciate all the hard work our staff has put in to make sure our student-athletes have a first-class experience."

This marks the first year that the Sammy's will be hosted at the historic venue California Theatre. Tuesday's event is open to the public and free to attend. Business professional attire is recommended.

Some of this year's presenters include media personalities Anthony Flores, NBC Bay Area, Dustin Dorsey from ABC7, Kate Rooney from KRON4, Adam Copeland from KNBR, SJSU alum Jimmy Durkin from The Athletic, Vic Aquino from the Mountain West Wire and D1 ticker's Stephanie Garcia Cichosz. Additional presenters include track and field alum Dr. Harry Edwards, university cabinet members Interim President Stephen Perez, Senior VP and Provost Vincent Del Casino, Jr., VP of Institutional Strategy and Chief of Staff Lisa Millora, VP of Administration and Finance Charlie Faas and the Beyond Sparta Team of Tobruk Blaine and Annalisa Duarte.

For the first time, the Sammy Awards will be televised on NBC Sports Bay Area on Wednesday, May 25 at 8 p.m.
