SAN DIEGO - Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark tossed 6.0 strong innings, allowing just three hits, one run and struck out three, while Charles McAdoo and Omar Gastelum each drove in runs to lead third-seeded San José State (29-27) past No. 2 seed Nevada (28-25), 2-1, in the opening game of the Mountain West Championship at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Thursday. RHP Darren Jansen earned his third save of the season with 3.0 scoreless innings to close out the game.
- Clark improves to 2-4 on the season
- Theo Hardy went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to seven games
- Robert Hamchuk finished 2-for-5 at the plate
- Jack Colette got things started for the Spartans with a triple in the first inning, scoring on a ground out by McAdoo
- Colette has three triples on the season
- This was the fifth time SJSU has held its opponent to one run or less this season
- Dalton Bowling, Reece Hernandez and Hunter Dorraugh also had hits for SJSU
- This was the first win for San José State at the Mountain West tournament since a 13-6 victory over Nevada on May 25, 2018
- Today's win is the first to start a conference tournament since beating Air Force, 11-3, on May 21, 2014
