SAN DIEGO - Robert Hamchuk, James Shimashita and Ruben Mercado each recorded RBIs to lead No. 3 seed San José State (29-28) against No. 4 seed Air Force (29-27) in the winner's bracket of the Mountain West Championship on Friday at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Falcons' Doyle Gehring tossed 7.1 scoreless innings, striking out a career-high 13 and allowed four hits as Air Force defeated SJSU, 7-3.
- Theo Hardy extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate
- Hardy is batting .600 (3-for-5) at the conference tournament through two games
- Left-handed pitcher Ethan Ross (1-5) battled through 4.0 innings, striking out two and allowed two runs
- Jack Colette reached base twice with a walk and base hit
- Dalton Bowling went 1-for-4 for the Spartans
- Nathan Cadena had a pinch hit single in the eighth inning for San José State
- Carter Heninger struck out four batters in 2.2 innings pitched
- The Spartans will play No. 2 seed Nevada in an elimination game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
