Spartans Advance to First-Ever Mountain West Championship Game

Jack Colette went 3-for-5, with a double, triple and three-run home run, while Charles McAdoo doubled to right-center field to plate three runs and lead No. 3 seed San José State (30-28) over No. 2 seed Nevada (29-26), 15-6, in an elimination game at the Mountain West Championship on Saturday. The Spartans advance to their first-ever Mountain West Championship Game with the win and will face No. 4 seed Air Force (29-27) at 6:20 p.m. tonight.

  • SJSU broke the game open in the third and fourth innings, scoring seven combined runs to take a 8-2 lead
  • The Spartans added four runs in the sixth inning and responded with three more in the eighth after Nevada put three on the board in the bottom of the seventh
  • Colette finished with four RBIs and needed just a single to hit for the cycle
  • McAdoo went 2-for-6 with four RBIs
  • Right-handed pitcher Aaron Eden made the start, tossing 3.2 innings, scattering five hits, two runs and fanned one
  • RHP Darren Jansen picked up his team-best ninth win of the season with 2.2 innings of relief
  • RHP Gary Hall closed the game out, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out four
  • Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-6 and drove in two runs with a double and triple
  • Theo Hardy extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double, RBI, two HBP and scored three times
  • SJSU tallied nine extra base hits out of its 14 in the game (5 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run)
  • This is the first time San José State has won two conference tournament games since winning two games over Nevada in the 2011 WAC tournament
  • The Spartans reached 30 or more wins for the first time in over decade, finishing the 2011 season 35-26
