COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State's Robert Hamchuk was named Mountain West Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Hamchuk, a redshirt sophomore from San Jose, Calif., earns the distinction after hitting .583 with three home runs, 1.500 slugging percentage, two doubles and seven hits overall on the way to helping lead the Spartans to two wins against Fresno State over the weekend and their third conference series win in a row.
- Has 74 hits to lead the Spartans which is good for sixth in the Mountain West
- Five leadoff home runs this season
- Hamchuk is on a nine game hitting streak with six multi-hit games in a row and 19 hits over those nine games
- Leads the Spartans with a .368 batting average which is good for seventh in the conference
- First Player of the Week award for Hamchuk
- Third Player of the Week award for the Spartans this season (Hunter Dorraugh won it twice)
Hamchuk and the Spartans head to Santa Clara on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and it can be watched on Stadium.
