Spartan Volleyball Team Honored With Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky.—For the first time in school history, the San José State volleyball team earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2021 season.

The Spartans are one of more than 1,200 collegiate and high school volleyball teams to receive the award that honors volleyball teams who maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

This award culminates a banner year academically for the San José State volleyball team. Recently, six Spartans were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes for maintaining a 3.50 cumulative gpa, the most in one school year for the program. Earlier this spring, 10 Spartans earned Academic All-MW honors for maintaining at least a 3.00 or better cumulative gpa.

San José State is also one of six schools from the conference to receive this honor.

The Spartans begin the 2022 season August 26 and 27 at the Weber State Tournament against Southern Utah, UC Riverside and Weber State.
