SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State women's soccer will open the season with four consecutive home games, including two exhibition matches, and host a total of 12 contests at the Spartan Soccer Complex, announced by first-year head coach Tina Estrada on Friday. After a pair of exhibitions against Sacramento State (Aug. 11) and Cal Poly (Aug. 13), the Spartans welcome nationally-ranked Santa Clara (Aug. 18) and Saint Mary's (Aug. 28) to open the regular season.
SJSU will host Summit League regular-season defending champion Denver on Sept. 9 and close out the home non-conference portion of its season against Eastern Washington on Sept. 15. The Spartans will take on Big West defending champion UC Irvine (Sept. 2) in their first road game of the year, and follow that up with a road game against UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 4). UC Irvine upset No. 2 UCLA in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, before falling to Wisconsin in the NCAA second round.
The Spartans will start Mountain West play at home against Air Force on Sept. 22, and play home contests against Nevada (Sept. 29), UNLV (Oct. 2), Utah State (Oct. 13), Boise State (Oct. 16) and Fresno State (Oct. 27) in conference play. The top six teams from the regular season will advance to the Mountain West championship (Nov. 1-5).
Leading scorers Taylor Phillips (4 goals, 4 assists) and Evan House (2 goals, 3 assists) return to the lineup for the Spartans in 2022. House started in 18-of-19 matches played last season, while Phillips made 13 starts in 19 matches played. Goalkeepers Autum Monty and Shayla Sugai each saw action a season ago between the pipes and return for the Spartans.
