The San José State volleyball team opens the home portion of the schedule this Friday with a non-conference match against Saint Mary's beginning at 5 p.m. inside Spartan Gym. SJSU then travels to Sacramento State for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday.
Bump, Set, Spike
- The Spartans finished 2-1 at the Weber State Tournament last week, defeating Southern Utah (3-1) and UC Riverside (3-1) but falling in the championship match to Weber State (3-1). It is the second consecutive season the team began the season 2-1 during the opening weekend.
- California. That's the state where the Spartans will play their 10 matches in September. The team opens the month with a home match against Saint Mary's this Friday, followed by a trip to the state capital to face Sacramento State Saturday afternoon. Next week, the team hosts Loyola Marymount and UCLA. The Spartans then travel to Los Angeles for the Trojan Challenge the 16-18th. SJSU begins Mountain West play with road matches at San Diego State and Fresno State before returning home to face Boise State on the 29th to round out the month.
- Something will look different when fans enter Spartan Gym Friday afternoon for the team's home opener. Over the summer, a new Taraflex floor was installed and was revealed to the team on July 22. This type of floor is used in the Olympics and helps to prevent short and long-term injuries for the student-athletes.
- If you think there is a strong family resemblance between a couple of Spartans on the bench, you win the prize! Carly Aigner-Swesey joined the Spartan program this season for her final year of eligibility. While the name may not be familar to some, that is because her older sister is Delainey Gregory, the former Delainey Aigner-Swesey. Carly played the past two years at New Mexico State and the two years prior at Long Beach State, Delainey's alma mater. Carly has a twin, Sawyer, who was a member of the UCLA volleyball team the past four years.
