SJSU Comes Up Just Short at Auburn, 24-16

AUBURN, Ala.
- Tre Jenkins and Chase Williams had interceptions, while Kairee Robinson had a touchdown to lead San José State (1-1, 0-0 Mountain West) in a 24-16 loss at Auburn (2-0, 0-0 SEC) Saturday night. Chevan Cordeiro threw for 275 yards and ran for 23 and Charles Ross paced the receiving corps with 89 yards on five receptions. Tre Jenkins had seven tackles to lead the Spartans.

  • Cordeiro connected with Elijah Cooks twice on the Spartans opening drive for 15 yards and Cooks ended the day with four catches for 46 yards
  • The SJSU defense held Auburn's first drive to a three-and-out and a negative 20 yards
  • Tre Jenkins ended Auburn's second drive when he picked off the ball at the Auburn 44-yard line
  • Williams picked off the final Auburn play of the first quarter, giving the Spartans possession at the Auburn 28-yard line
  • Taren Schive got the scoring going with a 33-yard field goal at the 11:18 mark in the second quarter, giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead and ended the day three-for-four on field goals including one from 37 yards
  • The Spartans defense held strong in the first quarter, either forcing a three-and-out or interception on each drive
  • Robinson pounded the ball in from the one-yard line for a 10-7 SJSU halftime lead and had 24 yards rushing overall
  • Justin Lockhart had four catches for 57 yards and Jermaine Braddock had two catches including one for 22 yards
  • SJSU won the time of possession battle 19:26 to 10:34 in the first half and 33:21 to 26:39 in the game
  • The Spartans out gained the Tigers in the air 275-168
  • San José State didn't commit a turnover in the game and has yet to commit one on the season
  • The Spartans have five takeaways this season
  • Kyle Harmon had four tackles and is now sixth all-time in SJSU history with 356
  • Harmon had 1.5 tackles for loss while Hall had 1.0 tackles for loss
  • SJSU now heads into their bye week
