  • This will be the Spartans ninth game against a MAC opponent. The Spartans are 3-5 against MAC teams with each victory occurring in a bowl game. SJSU defeated Miami University in the 1986 California Bowl, Central Michigan in 1990 California Raisin Bowl, and Bowling Green in the 2012 Military Bowl. This will be just the third time the Spartans are playing a regular season game against a MAC opponent.
  • The Spartans haven't turned over the ball once this season and have four interceptions and one muff punt recovery. This is the first time this century SJSU has gone the first two games without turning the ball over and they are one of five FBS teams without a turnover so far this season.
  • SJSU won their fourth season opener in a row with a 21-17 win over Portland State on Sept. 1. The Spartans have won four straight to start a season for the first time since 1976 and are now 44-54-17 in season-opening games.
  • The win over Portland State was the 500th win in program history.
  • The attendance on Sept. 1 was 16,291, the highest for a home opening game since September 17, 2011.
  • The three turnovers created by the Spartans defense against PSU were the most since having three against SDSU (10/6/20) and the two interceptions by the Spartans defense were the most since having two picks against Nevada last season (11/6/21).
  • This is the first time in SJSU history the same head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator are on the staff for the fifth season in a row.
  • Head coach Brent Brennan enters his sixth season at the helm of the Spartans. He joins Claude Gilbert for fourth on the SJSU all-time coaching list. Gilbert coached from 1984-89.
  • Junior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro played his first game as a Spartan and scored three touchdowns including a 32-yard touchdown run against PSU (9/1). Cordeiro has thrown for 514 yards with a touchdown through two games and has rushed for 23 with two touchdowns.
  • Graduate linebacker Kyle Harmon was one of the best tacklers in college football last season. Harmon ended the campaign with 133 tackles which was good for third in the nation. The Antioch, Calif. native was named Preseason All-Mountain West this season and was First Team All-Mountain West in 2021 and 2020. Harmon's 11 tackles in the opener against PSU (9/1) was good for second most in week one in the Mountain West. Harmon had four tackles against Auburn (9/10) and is now sixth all-time in SJSU history with 356.
  • Graduate cornerback Nehemiah Shelton finished last season third in the country averaging 1.4 pass deflections a game. Shelton went five consecutive games breaking up a pass last season. The Gardena, Calif. native had his first pass deflection of the season at Auburn (9/10) and has nine tackles through two games.
