San José State gets the 2022 Mountain West season underway this week with matches at San Diego State on Thursday evening and at Fresno State on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans enter the week with a 6-4 overall record after going 2-1 this past weekend at the Trojan Challenge, defeating New Mexico State (3-0) and Milwaukee (3-1) before falling to USC (2-1). Blaire Fleming and Haylee Nelson were named to the all-tournament team.

The Spartans find themselves among the top-100 statistical leaders in three categories.
- Assists per set 26th 12.74 ps
- Kills per set 44th 13.61 ps
- Hitting Percentage 80th .240
- Since joining the Mountain West in 2013, San José State is 2-7 in MW-opening matches. The two wins came on road at Fresno State in 2015 (3-2) and last season at home with a 3-0 sweep of UNLV. This year's schedule is similar to 2019's schedule as SJSU starts the schedule on the road against San Diego State and Fresno State.
- Haylee Nelson currently sits ninth on the San José State career kills list at 1,226. She needs 11 kills to move into eighth place with Barbara Higgins and 61 kills for seventh place with Stephanie Pascucci.
- Not the position player who usually gets a double-double, libero Sarah Smevog recorded her first career double-double against New Mexico State with 10 assists and 10 digs. Ironically, it came exactly six years to the day that another Spartan libero recorded a double-double. Luiza Andrade had 11 assists and 13 digs against Long Beach State on September 16, 2016.
UP NEXT: San José State returns to Spartan Gym in YUH for matches against Boise State on Thursday, September 29, at 6 p.m., and versus Utah State on Saturday, October 1, at 1 p.m.
