- This will be the Spartans first Mountain West Conference game of the season and SJSU is 4-1 against Wyoming in this century. It is also the 30th anniversary (10/03/92) of Joe Nedney kicking a 60-yard field goal game winning field goal to lead the Spartans to a 26-24 win at Wyoming for their first ever victory over the Cowboys.
- The Spartans beat Western Michigan 34-6 last Saturday night and it is their largest win over an FBS opponent since 11/10/12 when SJSU beat New Mexico State on the road, 47-7.
- SJSU's defense held the Broncos to only eight completions and 71 passing yards.
- The Spartans allowed the fewest completions in a game against WMU since 10/28/17 when they gave up seven completions to San Diego State. The 71 passing yards is the lowest amount the Spartans have surrendered since they held Cal Poly to 37 yards on 9/2/17.
- Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro caught his first career pass against WMU with a 19-yard reception from wide receiver
Elijah Cooks. It was Cooks' second career pass and completion. - Freshman linebacker Jordan Pollard was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week after having eight tackles and his first career interception in the win against WMU. It was the first MW weekly award for the Spartans this season.
- The Spartans have one turnover this season and a +5 turnover margin which is good for ninth in the country.
- SJSU's defense has held teams to scoring in the red zone only 60% of the time this season which is good for first in the MW and seventh in the country.
- The win over Portland State (9/1) was the 500th win in program history and the attendance was 16,291, the highest for a home opening game since September 17, 2011.
