Smevog Named MW Defensive Player of the Week

 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—San José State fifth-year senior Sarah Smevog has been named the Mountain West Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her performances at San Diego State and Fresno State last week.

  • Helped the Spartans start MW play 2-0 with road wins at San Diego State (3-1) and Fresno State (3-2)
  • Averaged 3.67 digs, 0.78 assists and 0.44 service aces per set for the week
  • Recorded 23 digs at San Diego State in the four-set win, her 21st career match with 20+ digs and third this season
  • Moved into third all-time in career digs at San Jose State and ended the week with 1,433 career digs
  • Contributed 10 digs, three assists and three aces in the five-set win at Fresno State
  • Final service ace against the Bulldogs was the final point of the match to give San Jose State the win


The Spartans return home this week for a pair of MW matches beginning on Thursday with Boise State at 6 p.m., and on Saturday versus Utah State at 1 p.m. All matches will be held in Spartan Gym inside the YUH Complex on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.
