SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men's soccer begins WAC conference play by taking on Houston Christian and Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Spartan Soccer Complex this week. The Spartans play Houston Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas Rio Grande Valley on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

First Touches

  • The Spartans are on a two-game winning streak with victories over UC Davis 3-2 and Pacific 2-0.
  • Angel Iniguez is in terrific form with one goal and two assists in his last four games.
  • Joel Garcia leads the Spartans and is tied for fourth in the WAC with three goals.
  • Goalkeeper David Sweeney is tied for second in the WAC with two shutouts.
  • The Houston Christian Huskies have won three games in a row, including two respective 6-0 wins over Eastern Illinois and Howard Payne and a 2-0 triumph over Incarnate Word. 
  • The Texas Rio Grande Vaqueros are 1-1-1 in their previous three games, winning over Omaha, tying CSUN and losing to No. 16 Missouri State.
  • The Spartans are 6-4-2 against Houston Christian (formerly Houston Baptist) throughout history.
  • Kasper Poulsgaard scored to lead the Spartans to a 3-2 win over the Huskies in 2021.
