Spartans 3-0 To Start Mountain West Play

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Amethyst Harper led the Spartan hitting attack with 16 kills Thursday night as the San José State volleyball team defeated Boise State, 3-1, in the team's Mountain West home opener inside Spartan Gym to keep SJSU undefeated in the early conference season.

  • The Spartans (9-4, 3-0) have started MW play 3-0 for the second consecutive season.
  • Harper hit .364 in the win and added two aces, six digs and two blocks, one solo and one assist.
  • Haylee Nelson hit .444 on the night with 15 kills on 27 attempts and only three errors. She added two aces, six digs and three blocks, one solo and two assists.
  • Sarah Smevog led the Spartan defense with 20 digs, her fourth match this season with 20+ digs and 22nd of her career.
  • Mia Schafer had 32 assists and a team-high three service aces in the win.
  • After dropping the first set 25-16 to the Broncos, the Spartans rebounded with scores of 25-10, 25-21, 25-19.
  • After the first-set loss, San José State hit .340 for sets two through four. SJSU ended the match hitting .323 (62-21-127).
