SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football (1-0, 0-0 Mountain West) hits the road for the first time this season at Auburn (1-0, 0-0 SEC) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (PT) on ESPNU and KTRB 860 AM.

  • SJSU won their fourth season opener in a row with a 21-17 win over Portland State on Sept. 1. The Spartans have won four straight to start a season for the first time since 1976 and are now 44-54-17 in season-opening games.
  • The win over Portland State was the 500th win in program history.
  • The attendance on Sept. 1 was 16,291, the highest for a home opening game since Sept. 17, 2011.
  • The three turnovers created by the Spartans defense against PSU were the most since having three against SDSU (10/6/20) and the two interceptions by the Spartans defense were the most since having two picks against Nevada last season (11/6/21).
  • This is the third meeting between the schools with all three meetings being at Auburn and first meeting since 2015.
  • The Spartans last played an SEC team in 2019 when they beat Arkansas, 31-24, on the road and Brent Brennan is 1-0 against SEC schools as a head coach.
  • This is the first time in SJSU history the same head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator are on the staff for the fifth season in a row.
  • Head coach Brent Brennan enters his sixth season at the helm of the Spartans. He joins Claude Gilbert for fourth on the SJSU all-time coaching list. Gilbert coached from 1984-89.
  • The Spartans took advantage of the transfer portal this offseason by bringing in 13 with four of them from power five schools. SJSU now has seven players on the roster who came from power five schools.
  • Junior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro played his first game as a Spartan and scored three touchdowns including a 32 yard touchdown run. Cordeiro threw for 239 yards and one touchdown while scoring two on the ground which includes the game-winner against PSU with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Graduate linebacker Kyle Harmon was one of the best tacklers in college football last season. Harmon ended the campaign with 133 tackles which was good for third in the nation. The Antioch , Calif. native was named Preseason All-Mountain West this season and was First Team All-Mountain West in 2021 and 2020. Harmon's 11 tackles in the opener against PSU was good for second in the Mountain West.

Coaches Show:

For the first time since 2018, the San José State Coaches Show will air over the radio. Allegri will host and have segments each week from head coach Brent Brennan, special guests and players. Each broadcast can be heard on Thursday night at 7 p.m. on KTRB.

Teskes Germania will be the site of the San José State Coaches Show and it will be taped in front of a live audience every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The restaurant is located at 255 N First St. in San Jose and more information can be found here.
