Woodland, Calif.----- For her important role in San Jose State University winning four out of five matches at the season-opening UCSB Winter Invite women's water polo tournament, Cila David is the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Newcomer of the Week.
A freshman from Budapest, Hungary, David scored 10 goals for the Spartans (4-1) at the UCSB Invite. In her college debut against host and No.18-ranked UC Santa Barbara, she led all players in scoring with five goals and with three drawn exclusions. David also was the high scorer for both teams in San Jose State's 9-7 loss to #9-ranked UC San Diego.
David is the first Spartan in three years to receive MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors. Teammate Olga Descalzi earned the same award in 2019.
UCLA's Maddie Musselman is this week's MPSF Player of the Week.
San Jose State returns to action this weekend in the Cal Cup hosted by the University of California. On January 29, the Spartans take on UC Davis (2-0) at 8:30 a.m. and Fresno State (1-3) at 3:15 p.m. San Jose State concludes its second weekend of the season on Sunday, January 30, facing Pacific (0-0) at 11:00 a.m. and host Cal (4-0) at 4:30 p.m.
