Third Consecutive Week Smevog Named MW Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—For the third consecutive week, San José State libero Sarah Smevog has been honored as the Mountain West Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, this time for her play at Wyoming and Colorado State.

  • Helped lead San José State to an undefeated week, earning road wins at Wyoming (3-1) and Colorado State (3-2).
  • The victories gave the Spartans sole possession of first place in the Mountain West.
  • Averaged 4.78 digs and 1.44 assists per set
  • Tied her season-high with 24 digs in the win at Colorado State, her fifth match this season with 20-plus digs.
  • Added eight assists versus the Rams.
  • Perfect in serve-receive against Colorado State in 33 attempts.
  • Had only one reception error in 71 attempts for a .986 percentage for the week.

 
UP NEXT – The Spartans return home for the next three matches, starting on Thursday the 13th with New Mexico at 6 p.m., Saturday the 15th against Air Force at 1 p.m., and Tuesday the 18th against Nevada at 6 p.m. All three matches will be played at Spartan Gym inside the YUH Complex on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.
