For the first time in school history, the San José State volleyball team is alone in first place in the Mountain West standings with a 6-0 conference mark after wins last week at Wyoming (3-1) and at Colorado State (3-2). The Spartans won for the first time in 12 tries in Fort Collins and bring a six-match winning streak into the home matches this week.

San José State hosts three MW matches over the course of six days. The first to visit Spartan Gym will be New Mexico on Thursday evening, followed by Air Force on Saturday and Nevada next Tuesday.

  • The Spartans are off to their best conference record since joining the Mountain West in 2013. The program has not started 6-0 in any conference season since 1985 when the Spartans won the NorPac with a perfect 12-0 record.
  • The Spartans started the conference season 5-0 or better in seven seasons since 1982.
    • 1982 - Started 11-0 in the NorPac
    • 1983 - Started 6-0 in the NorPac
    • 1984 - Started 11-0 in the NorPac/Conference Champion
    • 1985 - Won the NorPac at 12-0
    • 1987 - Started 5-0 in the NorPac
    • 1999 - Started 5-0 in the WAC
    • 2022 - Started 6-0 in the Mountain West
  • Haylee Nelson moved up another spot on the San José State career kills list last week and is now seventh all-time at 1295 kills. She passed Stephanie Pascucci who had 1,287 kills from 1999-2002. Nelson now needs 64 kills to move into sixth place with former All-American Lisa Ice.
  • Four Spartans recorded 10 or more digs in a match for the first time this season. Sarah Smevog led the team with 24 digs, followed by Mia Schafer and Letizia Cammillucci with 11 and Carly Aigner-Swesey with 10. The last time this happened was last season's win at home over Boise State on November 13, 2021.
  • In the win at Colorado State, setters Carly Aigner-Swesey and Mia Schafer were the two Spartans with double-doubles, not the hitters. Aigner-Swesey had her first double-double of the season with 24 assists and 10 digs, while Schafer recorded her third consecutive double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs.
  • Setter Mia Schafer begins the week with 1,963 assists and needs 37 assists to reach 2,000. She would be the 13th Spartan in school history to reach 2,000 career assists.
  • For the first time this season, four Spartans recorded 10 or more kills in a match, this time in the 3-2 win at Colorado State. Amethyst Harper led the team with 16 kills, followed by Blaire Fleming with 15, Haylee Nelson at 11 and Jiana Lawson with 10 kills.
