The Mountain West leaders are big risk takers this week as the San José State volleyball team faces both teams from the state of Nevada. The Spartans host Nevada on Tuesday and then travel to UNLV on Thursday.

Nevada enters the night with a three-match winning streak and are tied for sixth in the MW standings at 4-4. UNLV has won seven straight matches and is just one match behind the Spartans in the conference standings at 7-1.

San José State brings a 14-4 overall record and 8-0 MW mark into the week. The Spartans have an eight-match winning streak, the longest since 2001.

The Spartans have not won eight consecutive matches since 2001 and have not won seven consecutive matches or more in back-to-back seasons since 2000 & 2001 when they won eight straight each year (and the last time the program made an NCAA appearance). The 1999 team set the school record for consecutive matches won at 14.

  • The Spartans hit a blistering .413 in the sweep over Air Force on October 15. The team recorded 50 kills on 92 attempts and only 12 errors. It is the third-best hitting match by a team in the Mountain West this season.
  • Individually, Amethyst Harper hit a season-high .682 with 16 kills on 22 attempts and one hitting error. Jiana Lawson hit .545 with seven kills on 11 attempts and one error, while Yazmin Pitpit hit .455 with six kills on 11 attempts and one error.
