Spartans Battle Rebels Thursday Night

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Blaire Fleming recorded a career-best 20 kills as the San José State volleyball team dropped a highly-contested match at UNLV, 3-1, Thursday night inside the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
 

  • Amethyst Harper recorded her second double-double of the week with 16 kills and 10 digs.
  • Haylee Nelson added 14 kills and seven digs. She led the team with four blocks, two solo and two assists.
  • Sarah Smevog led all players with a season-best 24 digs, followed by Letizia Cammillucci with a career-high 16 digs.
  • Carly Aigner-Swesey recorded her second double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs.
  • The two teams combined for 33 service errors and just nine service aces. The Spartans were led by Harper and Smevog with two aces each.
  • The loss ends the nine-match winning streak that SJSU started the Mountain West schedule with this season. San José State is now 15-5 on the year and 9-1 in the MW.
  • The Spartans and Rebels are atop the MW standings, each team with one conference loss. Colorado State fell to Boise State, 3-1, Thursday night and is in third place at 7-2.
  • The match featured two sets that ended with both teams scoring 30 or more points.
  • In the first set, the Spartans fought off two Rebels set points before winning the set on the sixth set point for SJSU at 32-30.
  • The final set is one of the highest scoring in the NCAA this season at 39-37.
  • In the fourth set, SJSU had six set points, and UNLV needed nine match points before winning the set and match.

 
UP NEXT – The Spartans continue on the road next week with matches at Air Force on Thursday the 27th and at New Mexico on Saturday the 29th. Both matches will be shown on the Mountain West Network.
