No. 15 SJSU Battles and Narrowly Defeats No. 14 Harvard

SANTA CLARA, Calif.— Bence Szabo dominated Sunday morning netting five of his team's 11 total goals as No. 15 San Josè State (10-11, 0-2) defeated No. 14 Harvard (15-7, 4-1) 14-13 in their first home game since September 10. The Spartans went 4-0 at the Julian Fraser Memorial. 

Dominant Under Pressure 

  • With under 15 seconds to play, and SJSU leading by one, Szabo scored his fifth and final ball at the shot clock buzzer. Itay Nemet assisted on the goal that sealed the Spartans win. 
  • Bende Pardi added another three goals for the Spartans. Pardi netted 12 goals through four games throughout the weekend.
  • Niels Hofmeijer (2), Mael Suchet, Garrett Johnson and Laszlo Szieben also all scored against the Crimson. 
  • This win marks SJSU's fifth consecutive victory overall. 
  • Goalkeeper Jamie Steingraf recorded six steals and eight saves, giving him 23 saves total in his last two games played against Bucknell and Harvard. 
  • Erik Duesund led the Spartans with a game high three assists. 
  • SJSU recorded 11 assists in comparison to Harvard earning just seven. 
  • The Spartans also recorded 37 shots on goal. 
     

Up Next: The Spartans will return home to play against No. 11 UC Santa Barbara (11-11,1-1) to continue Gold Coast Conference Play at the SRAC on Saturday, October 29 at 1:00 p.m. PST.
