SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football (3-1, 1-0 Mountain West) hosts UNLV (4-1, 2-0 Mountain West) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network and KTRB 860 AM from CEFCU Stadium.

  • The Spartans are looking for their second straight Mountain West win in a row to start a season since doing so in 2020. After beating Wyoming 33-16 last Saturday, the Spartans have won three straight season opening MW games in a row.
  • Junior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro was named MW Offensive Player of the Week (10/03) after being part of three touchdowns including running for two. The Spartans generated a season-high 456 yards of total offense and Cordeiro threw for a season-high 314 yards. It's the second week in a row the Spartans have won an MW award.
  • The Spartans defense has an interception in every game this season and the offense has yet to turn the ball over. The Spartans +6 turnover margin is good for ninth in the nation. Six different Spartans have interceptions this season.
  • The Spartans defense got their first safety of the season against Wyoming thanks to Noah Wright and Bryun Parham. It was SJSU's first safety on defense since getting one against Colorado State on Oct. 6, 2018.
  • SJSU's defense has held teams to scoring in the red zone only 63.6% of the time this season which is good for first in the MW and sixth in the country.
  • UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo played quarterback at SJSU from 1998-2002 and helped lead the Spartans to seven wins in 2000 with 15 touchdowns and 2,334 yards passing. Arroyo started his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant coach at SJSU in 2003. SJSU head coach Brent Brennan coached with Arroyo at SJSU from 2005-08 and was in Arroyo's wedding.
  • The Spartans beat Western Michigan 34-6 (9/24) and it was their largest win over an FBS opponent since 11/10/12 when SJSU beat New Mexico State on the road, 47-7.
  • SJSU's defense held the Broncos to only eight completions and 71 passing yards and 0 non-special teams points.
  • The win over Portland State (9/1) was the 500th win in program history and the attendance was 16,291, the highest for a home opening game since September 17, 2011.

For the first time since 2018, the San José State Coaches Show will air over the radio. Allegri will host and have segments each week from head coach Brent Brennan, special guests and players. Each broadcast can be heard on Thursday night at 7 p.m. on KTRB.

Teskes Germania will be the site of the San José State Coaches Show and it will be taped in front of a live audience every Wednesday night at 6 p.m besides this week as it will be Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The restaurant is located at 255 N First St. in San Jose and more information can be found here.
