Wilson and Pernot Receive MW Player of the Year Honors While Three Other Spartans Named to Conference Teams

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jada Wilson was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year and Bente Pernot was recognized as the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year on Sunday afternoon in an announcement by the Mountain West Conference. Wilson was also honored as a member of the All-Conference First Team while Pernot made two conference teams including the All-Conference Second Team and the All-Newcomer Team. Pernot was joined on the All-Conference Second Team by teammates Bella Flocchini and Sabrina Weinman. Tatiana Cunningham was also recognized as a member of the All-Newcomer Team.

Jada Wilson, Fifth-Year Senior, Center Back, Oceanside, Calif./El Camino High School

  • Led the Spartans back line as the team's captain.
  • Helped the Spartans defense record six shutouts.
  • Started in all 18 matches.
  • Played all 90 minutes in every conference match except for one.
  • Recognized as the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on September 26th for her performances in shutouts against Air Force and Colorado College.

Bente Pernot, Freshman, Goalkeeper, Geleen, Netherlands.

  • Led the Mountain West with a .723 goals-against average.
  • Second in the Mountain West with a 839 save percentage.
  • Registered five solo shutouts and one combined shutout.
  • Recorded four or more saves in five conference matches.
  • Recognized twice as the Mountain West Freshman of the Week (September 26, October 17).

Bella Flocchini, Sophomore, Forward, Reno, Nev./Galena High School

  • Started in every match this season
  • Led the team in shots on goal with 11.
  • Recorded a goal and an assist against Utah State on October 13th.

Sabrina Weinman, Senior, Midfielder/Forward, Bakersfield, Calif./South High School

  • Started and captained the Spartans in every match this season.
  • Scored two match-winning goals
  • Led the Spartans with 32 shots.

Tatiana Cunningham, Freshman, Midfielder, San Jose, Calif./Silver Creek High School

  • Started in every match this season.
  • Played a critical role as the holding midfielder in helping the Spartans record six shutouts.
  • Registered two assists during conference play.
