  • With wins last week over Boise State and Utah State, the Spartans are off to a 4-0 start in MW play for the first time in school history. The program has not started 4-0 in any conference season since 1999 when SJSU was 5-0 to start Western Athletic Conference play. In 2001, San José State won eight of the first nine WAC matches.
  • The Spartans start the week with 119 blocks on the season, almost double what the team had last year. Through 14 matches last season, SJSU had only 66 blocks and no matches with double-figure blocks. This year, San José State has recorded 10 or more blocks in five matches including 16 at San Diego State.
  • Individually, Jiana Lawson leads the team with 40 blocks, four solo and 40 assists, while Yazmin Pitpit has 35 blocks, two solo and 33 assists. In all, eight players have recorded 10 or more blocks this season.
  • In the 3-1 win over Utah State, two Spartans recorded double-doubles in the win but not necessarily who you would expect. Setter Mia Schafer and libero Sarah Smevog each recorded her second double-double of the season. Schafer had 20 assists and 10 digs, while Smevog had a career-best 11 assists and 11 digs.
  • Jiana Lawson and Yazmin PItpit made an impact on the Spartan hitting attack the past two matches in the wins over Boise State and Utah State. The two combined to hit .604 in the wins (31-2-48). Pitpit had 18 kills on 23 attempts with no errors, while Lawson had 13 kills on 25 attempts and two errors.
  • Four times this season, the Spartans have hit .300 or better in a match and are 4-0 in those matches including the previous two matches over Boise State (W, 3-1) and Utah State (W, 3-1).
