SJSU Announces Additional Games on NBC Sports Bay Area and California

SAN JOSE, Calif. - NBC Sports Bay Area will televise 10 additional San José State contests over the next several months, announced by Director of Athletics Jeff Konya on Wednesday. The broadcasts will include baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's gymnastics and softball. The Spartans and NBC Sports Bay Area teamed up to produce 14 games during the 2022-23 season after televising four in 2021-22.

"This partnership gives us a tremendous pathway to showcase our talented student-athletes throughout California to our fans, alumni and donors," said Konya. "We continue to witness strong numbers during these broadcasts and are excited about expanding to additional sports like gymnastics, baseball and softball."

"We are very excited to have a gymnastics meet on NBC Bay Area," said women's gymnastics head coach Joanne Bowers. "The exposure for our program will definitely help with recruiting and fan support, as well as the excitement of our gymnasts in getting this attention. Kudos to our administration for getting this done for us.  We appreciate it greatly."

The Spartans began their partnership with NBC Sports Bay Area in 2021-22, producing a football game, two women's basketball contests and one men's basketball game. This season, that partnership increased to 14 televised games on NBC Sports Bay Area and California. NBC Sports Bay Area and SJSU were named a finalist for Sports Video Group (SVG) College Sports Media Awards for Most Outstanding Live Game Production a season ago.

"We have really enjoyed working with NBC Sports Bay Area, and want to thank Jesse Flores, Ben Rodrigues and the entire NBC staff," said Scott MacDonald, SJSU Deputy Athletics Director. "Our teams have worked hard at providing really strong content and our broadcasts are being nominated for the best within the intercollegiate industry. I want to thank Justin Allegri and his team for producing high-quality games that promote all the success that SJSU Athletics is experiencing."

"We are very excited about having a program-best three televised games on NBC Sports Bay Area and California in 2023," said women's basketball head coach April Phillips. "We continue to get better each game and our fans will appreciate the hard work these young women are putting in. I want to thank Jeff and Scott for helping promote our program throughout California."
