Spartans Take Over Sole Possession Of Second Place In Win Over Rams

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Letizia Cammillucci led a trio of Spartans in double-digit kills with 16 as the San José State volleyball team took sole possession of second place in the Mountain West standings with a 3-1 win over Colorado State Thursday night inside a rowdy Spartan Gym.
 

  • Cammillucci's season best 16 kills led all hitters in the match. She added five digs and three blocks, including a solo block, in the win.
  • Amethyst Harper had 12 kills and a team-best four service aces, while Haylee Nelson added 10 kills, five digs and three blocks.
  • With her 10 kills, Nelson moved ahead of Lisa Ice on the San José State career kills list. Nelson ends the night with 1,364 kills and would need 62 more kills for fifth place.
  • Madeline Boerstra came off the bench and led the team with five blocks and had three kills.
  • Sarah Smevog again led the team with 11 digs and added six assists.
  • Mia Schafer moved into 11th place all-time in assists at San José State. She recorded 21 assists Thursday night and now has 2,113 assists for her career, passing Jennifer Liston who had 2,102 from 1991-92.
  • The Spartans outblocked Colorado State, 10-4, with Boerstra's five blocks leading the way. Four Spartans had three blocks – Blaire Fleming, Cammillucci, Nelson and Harper.
  • San José State improves to 11-3 in four-set matches this season.
  • With the win, the Spartans clinched a berth into the Mountain West Tournament after improving to 17-6 on the season and 11-2 in the MW.
