No. 14 SJSU Falls to Top-Ranked Cal at Home



SAN JOSE, Calif.— Nikola Nikolic and Mark Kis led the way as Nikolic recorded two assists with four shot attempts and Kis scored a goal. No. 14 San Josè State (10-14, 0-4) fell to No. 1 Cal (18-1, 3-0) 17-4 at the SRAC Sunday afternoon. 

  • Bendeguz MelkuhnNiels Hofmeijer and Bende Pardi also all scored. 
  • Goalkeeper Jamie Steingraf recorded six saves on the afternoon.
  • Hofmeijer, a graduate student who will be honored on senior day, has recorded 22 steals and 40 sprint wins throughout the 2022 season alone.
  • Utku Karhan, a fellow graduate student who will also be honored on senior day, has recorded six goals throughout the 2022 season. 
  • With just one regular season game remaining, SJSU has played 20 ranked opponents, including the number one team in the country twice. 

Up Next: The Spartans will return home for senior day and their final home game on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. PST. Hofmeijer and Karhan will be honored on senior day.
