SAN JOSE, Calif. - 
Chevan Cordeiro led San José State (6-2, 4-1 Mountain West) to a 28-16 victory over Colorado State (2-7, 2-3 MW) at CEFCU Stadium on Saturday night. Cordeiro recorded 274 passing yards with two touchdown passes, leading the Spartans to bowl game eligibility for the second time under head coach Brett Brennan. 
 

  • Brennan now has a chance to be the second coach since Claude Gilbert in 1986 and 1987 to lead the Spartans to two bowl games.
  • Cordeiro tied his season high with two passing touchdowns for the fourth time in 2022 and has 11 on the season.
  • SJSU recorded a season high of nine sacks.
    • The nine sacks were the most by a San José State team in a single game this century.
    • The school record is 13 sacks against Pacific on November 14th, 1981.
  • SJSU recorded five sacks in the first half.
    • Against Auburn, Western Michigan and Wyoming, SJSU recorded six sacks total across three games. 
  • Alii Matau recorded a new career-high of three sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss and seven tackles overall.
  • Nehemiah Shelton recorded one interception and leads the team with two.
    • With Shelton's pick, SJSU has recorded a takeaway in every game through the 2022 season leading to a +9 turnover margin.
  • Kairee Robinson scored two rushing touchdowns
    • Robinson now has nine rushing touchdowns on the season, the most by a Spartan since 2019.
  • Rahyme Johnson had his first career interception.
  • Travis Benham had two punts inside the 20-yard line and now has 10 punts inside the 20-yard line this season.
  • Dominick Mazotti scored the first touchdown of the game off a two-yard pass on fourth down with 9:07 left in the second quarter.
  • To start the second half, Robinson rushed for a touchdown to give SJSU the 14-10 lead.
  • The Spartans closed out the third quarter leading 14-10 after being down 14-7 at halftime.
  • To start the fourth quarter, Cordeiro connected on a 35-yard passing touchdown to Elijah Cooks to give SJSU a 20-10 lead that they would never relinquish. 
  • SJSU secured the victory with a Robinson rushing touchdown with 2:32 left in the game.
