SJSU Lands Two Transfers From Pac-12 Schools

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State women's soccer welcomes two key additions to its 2023 roster with the signings of transfers Tasia Kravitz and Kennedy Mayo. Kravitz, a central defender from Hillsborough, Calif., joins the Spartans after five years with the Washington Huskies while Mayo, a forward from Pleasanton, Calif., returns home to the Bay Area after a two-year stint with the Arizona State Sun Devils.

"I am so happy to welcome both Tasia Kravitz and Kennedy Mayo back to the Bay Area and to SJSU" said Spartan head coach Tina Estrada. "Tasia brings invaluable defensive experience playing in the Pac-12 for the past 5 years. More importantly, she is an incredible person that will add to our team culture in the most positive way. I look forward to coaching her in her last season. Kennedy is an athletic, aggressive, and powerful forward that will combine well with the rest of our attacking group. She has a team first mentality and a high achieving drive that will only make this program grow. I look forward to helping her grow.

Kravitz was a redshirt senior at Washington where she started in 25 of the 48 matches in which she appeared. In 2022, Kravitz helped the Huskies secure five clean sheets. In the 2021 season, she started in all eleven Pac-12 matches and played the full 90 minutes in eight matches. Against Arizona, Utah and #5 USC, she was on the pitch for a career-high 110 minutes. In high school as a senior at San Mateo High School, she was named the PAL League Defensive Player of the Year.

"I chose San Jose State for many reasons, including the challenging academics, the beautiful campus and the competitive soccer program" said Kravitz. "I am so excited to play for such an impressive coaching staff, in front of my family and in an area that I love!"

Mayo appeared in 28 match over the course of her two seasons at Arizona State, registering two goals and three assists. With eight shots on goal on 18 attempts, she garnered an impressive shots on goal percentage of 0.444. Going back to her high school days, the forward was an All-League Tri Valley selection while playing at Amador Valley High School.

"There is nothing like playing soccer in a highly competitive environment in California with a team that plays to win with an underdog mentality" said Mayo. "I am super excited to begin Spring ball with my new teammates while showcasing my skills and athleticism on the pitch".

Kravitz and Mayo join a Spartans squad that is hoping to build off a successful 2022 season. In 2022, the Spartans won the Mountain West Regular Season Title, the Mountain West Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
