Shim Joins U.S. Soccer As Chair of New Participant Safety Taskforce

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Meleana "Mana" Shim, the assistant coach of the San José State women's soccer team during the 2022 season, has announced that she has left her position with San José State to become the Chair of the Participant Safety Taskforce at US Soccer.

In her only season with the Spartans, Shim was part of a coaching staff that had tremendous success. The team won a Mountain West Regular Season title, the Mountain West Championship and made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2018.

"We are so blessed and thankful for Mana to have joined our program this past Fall", said head coach Tina Estrada. "Our student-athletes are forever impacted by an incredible role model that is going to do tremendous work for US Soccer. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors."

Shim will lead a team of 25–30 people including former or current athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, psychologists, lawyers and others. The committee will report directly to the federation's most senior leaders and will work to address and prevent all forms of abuse and harassment in women's soccer.
