Three Spartans Invited to All-Star Bowl Games

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football players Viliami Fehoko, Elijah Cooks and Nehemiah Shelton have all been invited to all-star bowl games to finish out their collegiate careers. Fehoko will be playing in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 2 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev., while Cooks and Shelton have been invited to the Hula Bowl on Jan. 14 from UCF FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

Josh Oliver was the last Spartan to play in the East-West Shrine Game in 2018 and Nick Starkel played in the Hula Bowl last season for the Spartans.

Viliami Fehoko, DL, East Palo Alto, Calif./St. Francis HS

  • Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Award (2022)
  • Sporting News All-America Second Team (2022)
  • All-Mountain West First Team Selection (2020, 21, 22)
  • Ted Hendricks Award Finalist (top defensive end)
  • PFF All-America Second Team (2022)
  • Finished his career at SJSU with 191 tackles, 46 tackles for loss, 23 sacks and 14 pass deflections in 48 games played.
  • He is second in SJSU history in tackles for loss (46), eighth in season tackles for loss (19) and fifth in career sacks (23).
  • Led the MW and was fifth in the country with a career-high 19 tackles for loss and third in the league and 17th in the country with a career-high nine sacks in 12 games played in 2022.
  • Also had a career-high 69 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass deflection this season.
  • Named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week (10/31/22) and East-West Shrine Defensive Player of the Week (10/17/22).

Elijah Cooks, WR, Atascadero, Calif./Nevada

  • All-Mountain First Team Selection (2022)
  • Finished his career with 184 catches, 2,554 yards and 28 touchdowns.
  • Led the MW and finished 13th in the country with a career-high 10 touchdowns and was second in the league with a career-high 1,076 yards in 12 games played in 2022.
  • His 1,076 yards in 2022 are good for seventh in SJSU single-season history and his 10 touchdowns are good for fourth in SJSU single-season history.
  • Led the Spartans in all receiving categories and finished fifth in the MW with 69 receptions.
  • Ended 17th in the country averaging 89.7 receiving yards per game.
  • Had touchdowns in his final four regular season games and had seven total during that stretch.

Nehemiah Shelton, CB, Graduate Student, Gardena, Calif./Serrra HS

  • All-Mountain West Honorable Mention Selection (2021, 22)
  • Finished his career at SJSU with 195 tackles, eight interceptions, 32 pass deflections and 3.5 tackles for loss in 45 games.
  • Led the team with eight pass deflections and finished tied for the team lead in interceptions with two in 2022.
  • Had eight tackles with one for loss and a single game career-high four pass deflections vs. Hawai'i (11/26/22).
  • Had 49 tackles with a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss in 12 games played in 2022.
  • Had eight tackles and a pass deflection at Utah State (11/19/22).
