SJSU Tennis Adds Transfer Millan and Assistant Coach Komel

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Junior tennis player Carolina Millan has joined San José State after a great career at Utah State and Jakob Komel has been named assistant women's tennis coach, announced by head coach Chad Skorupka on Tuesday.

Millan was named to the All-Mountain West Singles team the last two seasons and is a three-time Mountain West Player of the Week award winner. Komel has been involved with tennis for 17 years and received a scholarship at McPherson College (NAIA) and played there for four years. He has many accomplishments on the court from being top ten in NAIA doubles as a senior and being starter and captain for his team all four years while leading the team to three conference championships.

  • All-Mountain West Singles (2021, 22)
  • Mountain West Player of the Week (2/4/21, 3/17/21, 3/2/22)
  • Academic All-Mountain West (2020, 22)

  • Went 18-8 in singles play and 18-11 in doubles play in 2022
  • Went 8-4 in singles play during the dual match season, including a 4-3 mark at the top spot of singles play and a 4-1 record at the second position
  • Ended the 2022 season on a six-match winning streak in doubles play

The Spartans open 2023 with three matches in Hawaii starting on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. (PT) against Hawai'i.
