Freshmen Lead Charge in First Day of UNM Indoor Open

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Alyssa Bean led the Spartans with a first place finish in the Women's 200m Dash as San José State completed its first day of competition at the University of New Mexico Indoor Open. On the first day of the open, SJSU's youth showed its potential with every high event finish coming from a freshman.

  • Bean placed first in the Women's 200m Dash with a time of 23.92 seconds. Fellow freshman Sharli'e McCuller placed third in the same race with a time of 24.83
  • Despite placing fifth in the competition, Ajamu Reed set a San Jose State indoor record in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 7.32m (24')
  • Christopher Coats and Cameron Tarver took second and third place in the Men's 200m Dash with times of 21.26 and 21.48 respectively

UP NEXT: The Spartans will move on to more individual and team events tomorrow in Day Two of the UNM Indoor Open.
