One Spartan Nation Members Donate Over $1 Million in December

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State Athletics thanks all One Spartan Nation members for their commitment to the nearly 500 student-athletes and their success after a very successful December. The Spartans welcomed nine major gifts last month which eclipsed $1.165 million and produced $163,275 in the first Day of Giving for athletics in late November. SJSU completed the most successful fall in the history of athletics, and the generosity of One Spartan Nation helps SJSU Athletics provide a cutting-edge experience for its student-athletes.

"The excitement is building for all our programs here at San José State and we are thankful to One Spartan Nation for their kindness over the last couple of months," said Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. "We want to build off this momentum in 2023 and help advance our student-athletes in the community, in the classroom and in competition." 

  • The nine major gifts were courtesy of Elcor Electric courtesy of Clint and Ryan Woodley (Dick Vermeil Football Excellence Fund), Casey LeBlanc (Name the wide receivers room in the new Spartan Athletics Center), Art Lund (Men's Basketball), Marissa Matusich-Kagle (Dick Vermeil Football Excellence Fund, Softball and Men's Basketball), Linda Morasch (Alston Awards for all student-athletes) and one Anonymous major gift (Men's Golf)
  • The department added a new Forever Spartan with the incredible generosity of Steve Coates, who made a major blended commitment to ensure the long term success of scholarship endowments residing in athletics, the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business and the English Department
  • There were five leadership gifts from Bill Bischoff (AD Fund), David Eisenhauer (Football), Tom Thompson (AD Fund), Tim Villanueva (Men's Basketball) and Jay Fischer (Football)
  • On the first-ever Day of Giving for athletics, the Spartans received 288 gifts for $163,275

"It was an incredible month of generosity by alumni and friends who care deeply about San José State," said Associate AD for Major Gifts Dominic Urrutia. "We're very thankful for these significant investments, which are critical for sustaining the success our student-athletes and fans enjoyed this fall."
