SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State women's basketball continues Mountain West conference play this week with a home matchup against Air Force on NBC Sports Bay Area with Justin Allegri and Marc Spears and a road showdown versus Fresno State. Tipoff versus Air Force is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 5th and tipoff against Fresno State is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7th.

The Fast Break

  • The Spartans enter the week on the heels of a tough 73-62 loss to Boise State.
    • Despite the loss, the Spartans can take a lot of pride in outscoring the Broncos 42-35 in the second half.
    • The Spartans cut the deficit to only three with 2:30 remaining after trailing by 18 at the half.
    • Jada Holland, Marisa Davis-Jones and Sabrina Ma all scored in double figures.
  • The Spartans have excelled with their aggressive defense and ball pressure this season as they rank fourth in the Mountain West in steals.
    • Holland ranks third in the conference in steals at 2.38 per game and Singleton ranks fifth at 2.23 per game.
  • Holland has recorded at least one steal in 12 straight games and Singleton has registered at least one steal in five straight games.
  • Amhyia Moreland has recorded at least one block in four straight games.

vs. Air Force

  • The Air Force Falcons are 1-1 in conference play this season with a win over Utah State and a loss to New Mexico.
  • The Falcons average the most steals per game in the conference (12.64) and lead the conference in turnover margin (+7.74).
  • The Falcons rank second in the conference in three-point shooting defense, limiting opponents to a 27% success rate from beyond the arc.
  • The Spartans should be able to take advantage of the glass as Air Force has the worst rebounding margin in the conference (-7.43).
  • The Falcons also rank second-last in the conference in blocks, averaging only 1.86 blocks per game.
  • The Spartans are 13-7 all-time against the Falcons.
  • The Falcons have won the past three meetings against the Spartans which includes two wins over SJSU in the 2021-2022 season.

vs. Fresno State

  • The Fresno State Bulldogs will face the Spartans after hosting UNLV on Thursday night.
  • The Bulldogs are 0-2 this season in conferene play with losses to Colorado State and Wyoming.
  • Fresno State has been the second-best scoring defense this season in the Mountain West, holding opponents to only 56 points per game.
  • The Bulldogs offense is heavily reliant on isolation play as they rank second to last in the conference in assists per game (9.47).
  • The Spartans are 23-61 all-time against the Bulldogs.
  • The Bulldogs won both matchups over SJSU in the 2021-2022 season.
