PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif.—Lucia Lopez Ortega moved into a tie for second place as she shot another two-under 69 in the second round of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge as the third-ranked San José State women's golf team remained in second place after two rounds at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club.

  • The Spartans shot another two-over 286 on Monday and maintained their second-place spot, two shots behind No. 1 Stanford. SJSU has a five-shot lead over No. 23 Southern California and six-shot lead over No. 35 Ohio State and No. 5 Oregon.
  • Lopez Ortega made seven birdies during her round including four over her first nine holes. She recorded back-to-back under-par rounds for the first time this season.
  • Kajsa Arwefjäll and Antonia Malate are two of the three players tied for 12th at one-over 143. Arwefjäll shot a one-under 70, making three birdies including one on her final hole.
  • Malate shot a one-over 72 in the second round, making five birdies during her round.
  • Louisa Carlbom is tied for 58th at 10-over 152, while Rebecca Gyllner is tied for 61st at 11-over 153.
  • The field consists of 10 teams ranked in the top-25 of the Golfstat rankings.

 
UP NEXT – Final round play begins Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. The Spartans will play with Stanford, Southern California and Ohio State.
