LOS ANGELES, Calif. - San José State baseball (0-0, 0-0 MW) is in Southern California this weekend for the first series of 2023. SJSU takes on the Loyola Marymount Lions in three games at Page Stadium.
- Jonathan Clark, Micky Thompson and Aaron Eden will take to the mound as pitchers for the Spartans.
- Clark gets the honor of throwing SJSU's first pitch of 2023. In 2022, he was ninth in the Mountain West in innings pitched at 68.1 and allowed the fourth-fewest hits with 65.
- The Spartans bring back a potent offensive lineup from 2022, led by members of the 2023 Preseason All-Mountain West Team, Charles McAdoo and Hunter Dorraugh.
- In addition to his Mountain West honor, McAdoo was recognized earlier this season as a preseason first-team All-American by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
- Out of the bullpen, Darren Jansen returns after a 2022 season in which he led the Spartans with an ERA of 4.67 and a record of 9-2 which was the second-best record in the conference.
- Jansen was the third Spartan named to the 2023 Preseason All-MW Team.
- In 2022, the Spartans finished with a winning record (30-29) for the first time in over a decade (35-26 in 2011). SJSU won two conference tournament games for the first time since the 2011 WAC tournament.
- This season, the Mountain West coaches project the Spartans to finish second in the conference.
VS. LMU
- LMU leads the all-time series, 16-7.
- LMU swept the Spartans the last time the two sides matched up, in 2020.
- In the 2020 series, Corey Sanchez pitched a scoreless inning and Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-8 in the two games in which he played.
Up Next: The Spartans return to San Jose, Calif. for the team's home opener against Cal Poly. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Watch the game on the Mountain West Network.
