SAN MARTIN, Calif.—Antonia Malate won the 18th hole of her match and clinched the winning point as the fourth-ranked San José State women's golf team won 3-2-1 over top-ranked Stanford Tuesday afternoon at the Battle of the Bay at CordeValle.
Lucia Lopez Ortega got the first Spartan point of the day as she went two-up on the 15th hole and then matched Megha Ganne over the next two holes to win 2&1.
Spartan Rebecca Gyllner tied the world's top-ranked amateur Rose Zhang. Gyllner was down one with two holes remaining before tying the match on the 18th hole, recording a 5, while Zhang had a 6.
Kajsa Arwefjäll won her match, 6&5, over Angelina Ye. Arwefjäll was down two after the first three holes, but rallied to go 3 up over the next five holes and extended it out to 6 up through 13 holes to win 6 & 5.
Malate played Caroline Sturdza in the final match of the day. The match was tied after 10 holes before Malate won three of the next four to go up three with four to play. After a tie on 15, Sturdza won 16 and 17 before Malate won the 18th and secured the win for the Spartans.
Louisa Carlbom fell to Sadie Englemann, 4 & 3, while Jordyn Parr lost to Kelly Xu, 2 up.
