ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Emilia Sjostrand, Alyssa Bean and Christopher Coats look to round into championship form at the Don Kirby Invitational on February 10 and 11. This meet will be the Spartans' last before the Mountain West Indoor Championships starting February 23.

  • Sjostrand set the all-time SJSU record for the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.37m last week at the UNM Indoor Open, a distance that currently ranks 7th in the nation. She also holds a team-best Long Jump mark for the season with a distance of 6.07m, which she recorded at Wesley A. Brown Invitational earlier this year.
  • Freshman Bean set a school record last time out in the 400m with a time of 54.91 while placing in 2nd. She also won the Women's 200m with a time of 23.92.
  • Bean and Sjostrand both received MW honors for their efforts at the UNM Indoor Open. Sjostrand was named MW Field Athlete of the Week and Bean earned MW Freshman of the Week.
  • Bean also helped lead the Women's 4x400 team to a second place finish at the UNM Indoor Open along with Aliyah Williams, Kaylen Fletcher and Kaiya Johnson.
  • Coats earned a nomination for MW Freshman of the Week after he set two PRs at the UNM Indoor Open. He placed 2nd in the 200m with a time of 21.26 and 6th place in the 400m after a mark of 48.03. His 200m time is a new school record and his 400m time sits at 4th in all-time rankings.
