IRVINE, Calif. - San José State softball (0-0, 0-0 MW) opens their season Friday at the Mark Campbell Invitational with No. 16 Duke at 9:00 a.m. and No. 14 Washington at 11:30 a.m. from Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif. The Spartans will play in five games at the invitational including against No. 1 Oklahoma and all games can be seen on FloSoftball.
- The Spartans last win over a ranked team was March 9, 2018 in a 7-3 win at No. 21 Long Beach State.
- The Spartans have never played Duke or Liberty before, are 2-0 against Oklahoma, 19-28 against Stanford and 0-6 against Washington.
- The Spartans return 18 players from a season ago including 2022 Second Team All-MW players Alyssa Graham and Jenessa Ullegue. Graham led the Spartans with a .337 batting average, 36 runs, 57 hits, 11 doubles and 26 RBIs. Ullegue led the team with 38 appearances and a 2.79 ERA, plus 16 wins and two saves.
- Both Lacie Ham and Farrah Steffany played under Mark Campbell. Ham calls Mark Campbell a mentor and how he was the first when at the hospital when she had a skull fracture injury and was there for her when she felt like she had nobody. Ham says she always plays for Mark Campbell.
- The Spartans had a huge transfer this offseason in Adrianna Noriega who left Fresno State. Noriega was First Team All-MW in 2021 and joins her sister Ahmiya in San Jose.
- Utility player Aubrie Thomas has longstanding ties with SJSU. Her father Shawn played defensive back for the Spartans football team and her mother Sarah was a catcher on the softball team.
