SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San José State baseball team will travel to Sacramento, Calif. on Wednesday to face the Sacramento State Hornets at 6 p.m. Watch the game on the Mountain West Network.

PREVIOUS SERIES

  • The Spartans won one out of three games in a competitive series against Air Force on the weekend.
  • Two of the three games went to extra innings.
  • Robert Hamchuk led the Spartans offensively in the series, hitting .438 (7-for-16).
  • Dalton Bowling and Nathan Cadena each had three doubles in the series.
  • Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark and left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson each tossed 6.0 innings. Clark, the starter in Friday's game, allowed only three runs on four hits while striking out six and Thompson, the starter in the first game on Saturday, surrendered only two runs on nine hits while striking out three.

THIS SEASON

  • Two Spartan starters rank in the top 10 in the Mountain West Conference in ERA as Thompson is second with an ERA of 2.57 and Clark is seventh with an ERA of 3.86.
  • Clark is fourth in the conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .220 against him.
  • LHP Jack White is second in the conference with three wins.
  • As a team, the Spartans lead the Mountain West in opposing batting average (.247).
  • The Spartans also lead the Mountain West in runners picked off. They have picked off five runners total with Clark and Thompson each picking off a league-leading two.
  • Matt Spear has thrown out a conference-leading eight attempted base stealers.
  • The Spartans are second in the conference with 40 doubles.
  • Dalton Bowling leads the conference with nine doubles, Charles McAdoo is second with eight and Hunter Dorraugh is third with seven.
  • Jack Colette is tied for fifth in the conference with five stolen bases.

VS. SACRAMENTO STATE

  • The Hornets are 10-9 this season and coming off a weekend series against Grand Canyon in which they went won one game and lost two.
  • The Spartans and Hornets are an even 33-33 against each other in series all time.
  • The two teams played a three-game series against each other from May 19-21 in 2022 in which the Hornets won took out of three.
  • Bowling had a perfect 4-for-4 game with a 2-run home run in the Spartans lone win of the series.
  • LHP Ethan Ross produced a sensational start, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and recording eight strikeouts.
