Spartans Historic Season Ends In Quarterfinals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The historic season came to an end Monday afternoon as Omari Moore led the Spartans with 17 points as the San José State men's basketball team fell to Radford 67-57 in the quarterfinals of the Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational in Daytona Beach.

  • Moore finishes his season with 608 points, the fifth-highest total in a season in school history.
  • He ends the year fifth all-time in scoring with 1,312 points, field goals made at 1,086 and assists at 429. He is fourth in blocks with 90 and steals at 120.
  • Moore and Alvaro Cardenas each dished out five assists.
  • Robert Vaihola came off the bench to lead the team in rebounding with 11 and added eight points.
  • Tibet Görener came off the bench to add 11 points and grabbed three rebounds.
  • The Spartans finished the 2022-23 season with a 21-14 overall record, the most wins for the program since the 1980-81 season when that team finished 22-9.
  • San José State was 10-8 in Mountain West play, the most MW wins in a season in school history, and the best finish in the standings in fifth place.
  • The MW Tournament win over Nevada was the first win at the conference tournament in school history and the first time the Spartans played in a quarterfinal and semifinal game.
  • The win in the first round of the Discount Tire CBI over Southern Indiana on Saturday was the first postseason win in school history in six tries.
