SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Matt Spear went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run to lead the San José State baseball team (7-9, 4-2 Mountain West) in a 7-6 loss to Sacramento State (11-9, 1-2 WAC) on Wednesday night at John Smith Field. Left-handed pitcher Jesse Gutierrez tossed 3.2 innings of relief, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out three.
- Spear hit his second home run of the season.
- Nathan Cadena hit his fourth double in three games.
- Hunter Dorraugh and Robert Hamchuk each registered two hits.
- RHP Drew Stapleton pitched 2.0 shutout innings of relief.
- Jack Colette produced an RBI double.
