Spartans Win in Extra Innings, Take Second Straight Game Over Saint Louis

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson tossed 6.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs on six hits while striking out three to lead the San José State baseball team (9-9, 4-2 Mountain West) in a 7-6 win over Saint Louis (12-8, 0-0 Atlantic 10) on Saturday afternoon at Excite Ballpark. Dalton Bowling went 3-for-5 and produced a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to power the Spartans to their second consecutive win.

  • Along with Bowling, two other Spartans also had three hits as Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-5 and Charles McAdoo went 3-for-6.
  • Jack Colette and Theo Hardy each had two hits.
  • Both McAdoo and Colette registered two RBIs.
  • RHP Darren Jansen earned the win as he pitched a scoreless top half of the 10th.
  • RHP Keaton Chase tossed 2.1 innings, allowing only one run on one hit while striking out two.
  • 10 different Spartans reached base safely either via hits, walks or HBPs.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, the Spartans strung together five hits in a row and produced six hits total in the inning as they scored three runs in the frame.
  • For Bowling, the game-winning hit was his second walk-off hit of the season. The Spartans' third baseman had a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 11th inning against Air Force on March 18.
