SAN JOSE, Calif.—Fresh off a series sweep of Saint Louis, the San José State baseball team will look to keep the momentum going when they battle Santa Clara on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.
PREVIOUS SERIES
- The Spartans took all three games over Saint Louis, winning 11-4 on Friday, 7-6 in 10 innings on Saturday and 4-3 in 11 innings on Sunday.
- Dalton Bowling was the hero on Saturday, driving in Jeriah Lewis with an RBI single in the 10th inning. Meanwhile, Hunter Dorraugh won the game for the Spartans on Sunday when he produced an RBI single in the 11th inning to bring home Charles McAdoo.
- Over the three games, Bowling and McAdoo led the Spartans offensively as they each went 7-for-15 at the plate and each hit one home run.
- Both McAdoo and Bowling totaled 11 total bases.
- Jack Colette led the Spartans with three doubles in two games and he also produced a team-high five RBIs.
- Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark was superb in his start on Friday, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing only one run on four hits while striking out a season-high nine.
- On Saturday, left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson drew the start and became the first Spartans' starter this season to pitch into the seventh inning. Thompson finished with a line of 6.2 innings pitched, two earned runs, six hits and three strikeouts.
- On Sunday, RHP Aaron Eden tossed 5.0 innings, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out three. He was relieved by RHP Cade Van Allen, RHP Joey Cammarata and LHP Jack White who combined to throw 6.0 scoreless innings.
WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK
- Two Spartan starters rank in the top 10 in the Mountain West Conference in ERA as Thompson is third with an ERA of 2.60 and Clark is fifth with an ERA of 3.44.
- Clark is fourth in the conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .217 against him.
- White leads the conference with four wins.
- As a team, the Spartans have the second best ERA in the conference at 4.12 and they lead the Mountain West in opposing batting average (.239).
- The Spartans lead the Mountain West in throwing out base runners as Matt Spear and Jake Maroney have combined to throw out 12 attempted base stealers. Spear leads the conference in CSB's with 10.
- The Spartans are second in the conference in doubles with 49. Bowling leads the conference with 10, McAdoo is second with nine and Dorraugh is third with eight.
- Bowling is sixth in the conference in both slugging percentage (.589) and RBIs (22).
- Colette is tied for sixth in the conference in steals with five.
VS. SANTA CLARA
- The Santa Clara Broncos are 13-6 this season and took two out of three games in their most recent series, against San Diego.
- The Spartans are 94-135 in series all time against the Broncos.
- Santa Clara won two out of the three games in which the Spartans and Broncos played against each other in 2022.
- McAdoo went 5-for-8 over the three games with a home run, a double and five RBIs.
- RHP Ethan Ross pitched 2.0 scoreless innings.
