Emilia Sjostrand First Woman in SJSU History to be Invited to NCAA Indoor Championships

SAN JOSE, Calif.— Emilia Sjostrand is the first ever woman in San José State history to be invited to the NCAA Indoor Championships held March 9-11 in Albuquerque, N.M. She qualified after winning a Mountain West Championship in both the Women's Triple Jump and Long Jump, and is nationally ranked No. 6 and No. 10 for each event respectively.

  • Sjostrand took the MW Women's Triple Jump title after submitting a school and MW record-setting distance of 13.71m (44'11.75"). She also jumped a second-best all-time mark of 13.64m (44'9") in the same day
  • The jumper submitted the first and second best distances in school history in the Women's Long Jump with marks of 6.48m (21'3.25") and 6.29m (20'7.75"). She now holds the school record and was crowned as SJSU's first Mountain West champion of the season
  • She was also named Women's Performer of the Meet for winning two titles in as many days
  • Sjostrand also lays claim to the 3rd best Triple Jump mark in her home country of Sweden's history, the same as her personal best 13.71m (44'11.75")
  • In SJSU's Indoor Track and Field record book, Sjostrand owns all five of the top Triple Jump performances listed. She also has the top Long Jump performance in school history
